David L. Lawrence Convention Center WiFi & Internet Rental
Exhibiting at a major event at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center? At 1.5 million sq ft with 313,400 sq ft of exhibit space — including the largest column-free exhibit hall in the country — downtown Pittsburgh regularly hosts medical device, robotics, and energy industry conventions, and the venue’s shared network wasn’t built for that kind of simultaneous load. David L. Lawrence Convention Center WiFi & Internet Rental
The current David L. Lawrence Convention Center opened in 2003 — a $375 million rebuild designed by architect Rafael Viñoly that made it the first LEED-certified convention center in North America and, at the time, the largest LEED Gold-certified convention center in the world. It has since gone on to earn LEED Platinum for existing buildings. Inside, exhibitors and attendees spread across a 236,900 sq ft column-free exhibit hall, 53 meeting rooms totaling 77,952 sq ft of meeting space, and a 31,610 sq ft ballroom. That kind of footprint, lit by roughly 75% natural daylight through the building’s glass curtain wall, is exactly where in-house convention center WiFi starts to buckle.
Pittsburgh’s downtown convention business runs on a mix that’s unusually technical for a mid-size market — a medical device conference might book the building one week, a robotics or energy industry trade show the next, each pulling in exhibitors who need registration systems, live demos, and streaming upstream all working at once. Both need internet that works from the loading dock to the last row of the general session — not a shared network that slows to a crawl once thousands of phones and dozens of exhibitor laptops hit it at the same time.
What Sets Our David L. Lawrence Convention Center WiFi Apart
WiFiT doesn’t resell the venue’s bandwidth. The building’s own network runs through showNets, billed per device rather than a flat venue-wide rate, and every connection still shares the same backbone. We bring in dedicated bonded-cellular units that pull signal from multiple carriers at once, so a dead spot on one network doesn’t take your booth or your general session offline. For halls with weak cell penetration or events that need guaranteed capacity regardless of what’s happening on the towers outside, we layer in satellite as backup or primary — a setup convention center IT departments simply don’t offer. You get a private, dedicated connection sized to your event, delivered and torn down on your schedule, with a technician who answers the phone if something needs adjusting mid-show.

FAQ
Will my exhibitor booth actually get reliable WiFi, or will it slow down once the show floor fills up?
Venue WiFi at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center runs through showNets and is shared across every exhibitor, attendee, and staff device on the floor at the same time, so bandwidth per booth drops fast once the hall fills. Our bonded-cellular units give your booth its own dedicated connection pulling from multiple carrier networks, so a packed exhibit hall next door doesn’t touch your speed.
The exhibit hall alone runs over 236,000 square feet — can one setup actually cover the David L. Lawrence Convention Center?
Yes. Between the main exhibit hall, the ballroom, and the 53 meeting rooms upstairs, we scope coverage based on your floor plan before we ever show up, and we place units to cover the specific rooms you’re using rather than trying to blanket the entire building. If your event spans multiple halls or floors, we run separate access points off the same core connection.
How does WiFiT pricing compare to ordering internet directly through the venue?
Convention center internet at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center is billed through showNets on a per-device basis, and those charges add up fast once you count booth staff, presenters, and attendee devices separately. WiFiT quotes one flat rental for the event, sized to how many devices and how much bandwidth you actually need, which usually comes in well under what per-device venue billing adds up to.
How far in advance do you need to set up before a show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center?
We coordinate directly with your show’s load-in schedule and typically install the day before doors open, which gives us time to test coverage across your booth or session space before attendees arrive. For larger bookings that span the exhibit hall and multiple breakouts, we sometimes start setup two days out.
Is a rented network more secure than connecting to the venue's public WiFi?
Considerably. Venue WiFi is open to everyone on the show floor, which means your booth’s payment terminals, laptops, and any sensitive data are sitting on the same network as a few thousand strangers’ phones. Our rental units give you a private, password-protected connection that isn’t shared with anyone outside your team.
Does downtown Pittsburgh's geography affect cell signal inside the David L. Lawrence Convention Center?
It can. The building sits along the Allegheny River at the edge of downtown, where three rivers and a compressed street grid already push local cell towers hard, and the same steel-and-glass construction that gives the hall its column-free span can work against signal penetration from outside. Our bonded-cellular setup pulls from multiple carriers simultaneously specifically to route around that kind of congestion, and we can add satellite as a backup path.
Happy Customers
“Our live product demos depend on a steady connection and venue wifi has burned us before at other shows. WiFiT had us set up before doors opened and every demo ran clean for the full two days, even during the busiest stretch of the show.”
“Ran a training session in one of the smaller meeting rooms that needed a stable video call with remote participants the whole afternoon. WiFiT set up a portable unit just for our room and the call never lagged once, even with slides and screen share running the entire time.”
“Ran a three-day industrial trade show booth and had issues with venue wifi dropping mid-afternoon on past visits to other convention centers. WiFiT's bonded setup never dropped once across all three days, even during the busiest afternoon block each day.”
