Long known as the Washington State Convention Center, the facility was renamed the Seattle Convention Center in 2022 following its second major expansion — a 1.5 million sq ft addition called Summit, opened in January 2023, that runs alongside the original Arch building and roughly doubled the center’s total capacity. Owned by the Washington State Convention Center Public Facilities District, the combined campus now spans two full city blocks above grade with a ballroom, flexible meeting space, an outdoor terrace, and dedicated exhibit halls. That kind of footprint, hosting everything from major technology conferences to large corporate meetings, is exactly where in-house convention center WiFi starts to buckle.

Seattle’s downtown convention business runs dense — a technology company’s annual conference might book Summit one week, a corporate meeting or association conference filling Arch the next, each needing registration systems, streaming upstream, and dozens of exhibitor booths all online at once. That’s not a load a shared venue network was ever sized to carry gracefully.

For halls with weak cell penetration or events that need guaranteed capacity regardless of what’s happening on the towers outside, we layer in satellite as backup or primary — a setup convention center IT departments simply don’t offer.
